Do you choose a “word of the year” each new year? A word of the year is simply something you want to be intentional about and work towards improving. I have loved this tradition for the past several years. This year I felt prompted to choose HEAR as my word of focus. My intent for this year is to be more still and, most importantly, to hear God’s voice amid the many voices of the world.
There are so many voices that surround us today. The kids are pulling us one way, our jobs another. With phones in our pockets we have multiple social media choices at just the tap of a phone. We are constantly bombarded with news, updates, and notifications. Noise constantly surrounds us. With so much noise in the world, sometimes it’s just. So. Hard. to hear the Lord’s voice amid it all.
President Nelson is constantly reminding us that we need the Lord – and especially communication with Him – in our lives. Each and every day. The first thing Heavenly Father counseled Joseph Smith to do was “hear” His Beloved Son. He wanted Joseph to listen to His Son. Learn from Him and understand Him. In a recent video, “Hear Him”, President Nelson encouraged each of us to likewise as we seek out and Hear the Savoir in our own lives.
I was so excited to see this video! We watched the video for FHE and I loved sharing it with my family. Because it is exactly what I’m working towards this year, I felt like the video was speaking directly to me. When President Nelson posed the question, “how do you hear Him?” I was instantly inspired to write down my thoughts. That one little line – “How do you hear Him?” – actually held so many questions for me. HOW do I hear Him? How do I hear Him? How do I KNOW I’m hearing Him? How can I BETTER hear Him? When in my life have I already heard Him? What can I do to hear Him MORE?
Hearing Him
As I pondered on these questions I knew I wanted to record all these thoughts in one place. I wanted them in a place where I can go back to my original impressions and look them over when the noise of the world starts to get me down. I put together this printable so that I could do just that. And I’m sharing it with you so that you can record your impressions, too.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch this short video, hop on over and watch it. Then, print out this printable to help guide you as you think about how YOU can better hear Him. Schedule in some time for you to quietly ponder. Find a quiet place where you can be alone. I know that in our busy lives that can be a challenge. But I also know that if we set it as a priority, and be intentional about it, we can make it work.
Find your quite place. Be still. Put away the phone. Let go of all of life’s distractions and demands. Close your eyes. Breathe. And listen. Listen with your heart. Listen with your spirit. How do YOU hear Him?
